Reconcile With God

Look at Nigeria today: the urgent need to return to God is not an option or a debate—it's a decision no one should postpone. In just the past few days, attacks are everywhere. School abductions are rising at an alarming rate, and headlines are filled with stories of innocent people being killed.

Small children—primary and secondary school pupils—were recently abducted. The bandits took them to unknown locations, stripped them naked, raped them, and recorded everything on camera. What a heartless generation we live in!

The prophecies of the Bible are unfolding before our eyes: “But all these are the beginning of sorrows. Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.” (Matthew 24:8–13)

Have you ever stopped to think that the people being killed, the children being abducted and violated, are human beings just like you and me? It could be you or your loved ones tomorrow. Do you really believe your security is unbreakable? That your bodyguards, high fences, or cleverness can stop determined terrorists? Or do you think these horrors only happen because of the victims’ sins? No—it is purely by God’s mercy that we are not consumed, not because of our own righteousness.

Even a Brigadier General was recently killed. Do you know what that rank means? A Brigadier commands at least 4,000 armed soldiers—yet when the bandits came for him, not one of those soldiers could protect him. Truly, unless the Lord watches over a city, the watchman stays awake in vain (Psalm 127:1). Your connections to powerful people, your fortified house, your sophisticated security systems—none of them can ultimately save you. If a Brigadier General with thousands of troops under him can be gunned down by bandits, what hope do the rest of us have without God?

But our God is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe (Proverbs 18:10). If you are already a believer but have drifted away and lost your way, He is faithful and just to forgive you and welcome you back the moment you repent. And if you have never given your life to Jesus, there is no better time than right now. We do not know who will be next—killed, kidnapped, or violated. To be truly safe, surrender your life to Jesus today and let Him become the Captain of your soul.
